Configure Incoming Mail

Summary:


Install SMTP Service on all Frontend Servers
  • Features
  • Add-Features
  • SMTP Server
  • Select: IIS 6 Management compatibility
Configure SMTP Service:
  • Start:  IIS 6 Management compatibility.
  • Right-click the SMTP virtual server that you want to configure, and then click Properties.
  • On the Access tab, in the Access control area, click Authentication.
  • In the Authentication dialog box, verify that Anonymous access is selected
  • On the Access tab, in the Relay restrictions area, click Relay.
  • To enable relaying from any server, click All except the list below. Otherwhise you've to configure an ACL.
Services.msc
  • Set SMTP Service to start automatically

Create a SMTP Drop and a SMTP BadMail Folder
  • Grant WSS_Admin_WPG Group and SP Timer Servers Full Control
  • Grant WSS_WPG Read and Execute rights.
Exchange Server:
  • Configure forwarding for the complete smtp server subdomain

Active Directory:
  • Grant Timer Service Account Full Control to the OU where accounts for document libraries will be created.

SharePoint
  • Configure Incoming Email.
  • Enable Sites on this Server to receive Email: YES
  • Settings Mode: Advanced
  • Use SharePoint Directory Management: YES
  • Enter the FULL OU Path: e.g. OU=sharepoint_doc_libs,DC=Domain,DC=local
  • SMTP Server: FQDN of SMTP Server (probably the fqdn of your primary WebApp)
  • Drop Folder: Enter the Full Path to the Folder created before.
